The hiring process can be a time-consuming and expensive endeavor, so it benefits any company to be able to find a quality candidate sooner rather than later. But hiring quickly means you may be sacrificing many of the steps or processes necessary to find the right match for the role, such as proper vetting and interviewing.

However, by adhering to the following 10 tips recommended by the members of Young Entrepreneur Council, you can weed out the wrong candidates and find the right fit quickly, efficiently and without sacrificing the quality of your hiring process.

1. Make Your Brand’s Voice Shine

Let your brand’s voice really shine in the job posting. There are a thousand boilerplate postings competing with yours. If potential recruits understand what sets your business apart from other potential jobs from their first interaction with you, you’ll see more candidates that are already aligned with your messaging and culture, and you’ll spend less time interviewing those who aren’t. – Greg Ashton, GROW

2. Leverage Employee Referrals

One way to recruit quality candidates and save time and money is by leveraging employee referrals. This method is effective because referred candidates are pre-screened and likely to fit the company culture. It can also help companies focus on a smaller pool of high-quality candidates. – Nic DeAngelo, Saint Investment – Real Estate Funds

3. Check Their Certifications

The best way to ensure that you’re hiring quality candidates for your open positions is to check if the candidate has additional learning certificates. When a candidate has a lot of certificates, it shows that they are genuinely interested in learning new skills. Such candidates can be an asset to your organization because they are always willing to learn and grow. – Thomas Griffin, OptinMonster

4. Vet Candidates Using Multiple Methods

Recruiting quality candidates can be a challenging process. Companies that take the time to vet potential candidates through various methods—such as background checks, reference checks and interviews—are more likely to find the right person for the job. This method of recruiting is effective because it can help companies hire qualified individuals with the expertise necessary to succeed. – Kristin Kimberly Marquet, Marquet Media, LLC

5. Give Them A Paid Test

The best way to streamline your hiring process is to give potential hires a small paid test to perform before they are officially hired. You don’t have to second-guess their experience or resume because it’s easy to see what they can do. I found that offering applicants a one- to three-hour test dramatically reduced our hiring time while boosting our retention rate. – John Turner, SeedProd LLC

6. Set Up ‘Red Flag’ Questions

One way to improve your hiring process is to set up “red flag” questions. You’re likely familiar with some version of this strategy. You can see examples of this practice on any freelance job board. There’s often a strange request like “Tell us your favorite cheese in the subject line.” These seemingly strange requests are actually designed to weed out applicants who don’t bother to read instructions. – Chris Christoff, MonsterInsights

7. Recruit From Industry Events And Fairs

Attending industry events and career fairs is an effective method for companies to ensure they’re recruiting quality candidates. These events provide an opportunity for companies to meet potential candidates in person and network with other professionals. This method is effective because it allows companies to gain a better understanding of the prospect’s skills and experience. – Sujay Pawar, CartFlows

8. Post On Professional Social Media Platforms

Leveraging social media platforms to find top-tier talent can help. Posting jobs on renowned platforms for professionals like LinkedIn can save you the additional cost of hiring headhunters, as talented professionals will reach out to you by themselves. Plus, you’ll have an abundance of resumes to screen which may help you find the best-suited candidates for the available roles. – Stephanie Wells, Formidable Forms

9. Create A Transparent, Precise Job Description

A job description is a candidate’s first impression of your company and the value they’ll receive working for you. It’s not about adding the “expected” information or the “most” information but about being transparent about the skills you’re looking for, growth opportunities and more. Therefore, you’ll find more qualified candidates and potentially increase employee retention. – Julian Hamood, Trusted Tech Team

10. Determine Cultural Fit

Hiring good candidates for your organization can be a time-consuming and expensive affair. So before hiring a candidate, you need to examine if they are a good fit for your company. One way to do that is to understand if they can fit into your company culture. Ask behavioral interview questions and look for cultural fit indicators. It’s a good way to assess them and ensure long-term benefits. – Josh Kohlbach, Wholesale Suite
